5 & Dime by popular request
Due to the popular interest in
5&Dime’s earlier accomplishments we’ve begun uploading a few more photos and
recordings from his past for your perusal. As a top flight sideman 5&Dime is
getting a lot of attention. He’s revered as a musician’s musician and one of
those guitar players that always know how to fit in. One of the best kind of
rhythm section players, a true “you don’t always notice him until he lays
out” type of accompanist, his bio describes his broad “self taught” musical
skills and experience. So now you can see and hear him in a few other music
settings. Just click on the link to his bio page and scroll down to the
bottom and click the link to “the earlier photos and music clips".

Geneva Red is inducted into a
distinguished hall
Geneva Red returned to her
hometown of McHenry, Illinois on April 10, 2006, where she was honored at
the Twenty-Seventh Annual Academic Recognition Dinner for her outstanding
career in blues music by being inducted into McHenry High School's Hall of
Distinguished Graduates for 2006. The forty-one recipients of the
schools special achievement award includes graduates dating back as far as
the class of 1892, one who had been a member of the Illinois State
Legislature, another an aero space engineer, as well as esteemed doctors,
lawyers, bankers, CEOs, civil servants, educators and war veterans. Red is
the youngest person ever to be selected for this recognition. Her photo
will hang permanently in the Hall of Distinguished Graduates at both
McHenry East High School and McHenry West High School.
Geneva Red was nominated for
the Distinguished Graduate Award by Jeff Varda, a teacher who remembered
her from the years she attended the school, and who has followed her
career as a blues harp player for many years. "Often those people who
are accomplished in a field that doesn't exactly fit the "mold" are
overlooked and I think it is important to students in the future to see
there are many possibilities in life." Varda said. A nominee must be
a graduate of at least fifteen years, and a maximum of five persons a year
may be selected. There were only two selected this year. Red was selected
for this honor by a
committee made up of staff, community representatives, alumni
and students.
